June 23, 2020Restech is proud to announce the launch of PepsinCheck, a PEPTEST product branded for the U.S. consumer market.
New at-home reflux test can be ordered online at www.pepsincheck.com
UK healthcare innovator, RD Biomed, developed Peptest, the world’s first non-invasive test for reflux, in 2007. Since that time it has grown to global prominence. Shipping costs and wait times were a barrier to the U.S. market preventing the adoption of this direct to consumer diagnostic test.
PepsinCheck: Restech’s New At-Home Reflux Testing
Restech, in conjunction with RD Biomed, the creators of Peptest, are proud to provide the first at-home reflux testing available in the U.S., PepsinCheck. Globally, Peptest has provided patients and physicians with valuable information about the presence of pepsin in the upper-airway. With the launch of PepsinCheck, Restech is making this sleek three-vial saliva test kit readily available in the U.S. The test kits are shipped from the U.S., processed at strategically located American labs, and results are sent back to the consumer by USPS and secure email within about a week.
Both PepsinCheck (U.S. market) and Peptest (non-U.S. markets) are manufactured by RD Biomed to the same global standard. The test detects the presence of the stomach enzyme pepsin (recognized as a reliable diagnostic biomarker for reflux) in saliva and sputum samples.
Why Consider a PepsinCheck At-Home Test?
Many patients become anxious about the prospect of 24 hour pH monitoring, especially as a form of recurrent or repeat testing. PepsinCheck provides a quick, easy, comfortable solution, with saliva-based samples and a simple process.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic and highly prevalent disorder affecting an estimated 20 percent of the US population. Many are treated with medications, yet an estimated 30 percent of reflux patients are non-responsive. Before self-treating or embarking on a medical treatment journey, it is important to obtain evidence of true reflux and treat accordingly. PepsinCheck is an accurate, painless and inexpensive test to determine the presence of pepsin in a saliva sample. We offer kits directly to consumers or through physician practices.
How Does it Work?
Patients purchase a three tube test kit. They provide samples at morning, noon, and night, or as symptoms occur. These vials are shipped to Pacific Medical Labs for analysis. Within a few days, the patient has their results, ready to share with their physician. Each test provides a simple range of results including both a positive/negative and a quantitative range from 0 to 500 ng/ml.
Where Can I Get It and How Much Does It Cost?
PepsinCheck can be ordered online at www.pepsincheck.com. Each test costs $149.99, including 3-vial test pack, shipping, lab processing, and results. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss adding PepsinCheck to your physician practice, please reach out to us at contact@pepsincheck.com.
What Restech and RD Biomed Say
Restech VP of Clinical Affairs, Thomas Ball, commented, “As we Rethink Reflux across the continuum of care, direct to consumer healthcare plays a pivotal role. RD Biomed and the Peptest provide an ideal accompaniment to our product portfolio, ensuring that tough diagnostic cases find appropriate physician-based care in addition to broadening our reach to an unprecedented range of patients. PepsinCheck represents the first at-home reflux testing in the US market and holds the potential to revolutionize the care of individuals with symptoms ranging from heartburn, to chronic cough, and even obstructive sleep apnea.”
Professor Peter Dettmar, director of RD Biomed, said: “We’re thrilled that our salivary pepsin test for diagnosing reflux has officially launched in the US. It has been a pleasure working with Restech, a successful digestive health solutions company, and we could not have chosen a better company to distribute and commercialise PepsinCheck by Peptest. It is estimated that reflux disease affects more than 60 million people in the United States every month, from babies up to the older generation. With PepsinCheck by Peptest, all patients need to provide is a saliva sample that can be analyzed for levels of the stomach enzyme pepsin – so it’s pain-free, low-cost and easy to administer.”
